Ram’s train of thoughts came to a sudden halt. He heard screeching of brakes and excited voices outside. He smiled..he enjoyed solitude but looked like it was not to be today. His family had all descended upon him. Before he could even keep his empty cup down she came running to him but the one who literally pounced on him was his pet Golden retriever Rex…Ram went down on his knees to hug this gorgeous creature who loved him unconditionally. He stood up and smiled at them all.
Ram: What a surprise! Aap log yahaan kya kar rahe ho?
He went to touch the feet of his mother Krishna Kapoor. She blessed him and gave him a hug.
Natasha: Bhai, aapko main nazar nahin aatee na? She pouted.
Ram pulled her into a bear hug and gave her an affectionate pat on her head.
Ram: Pagli, I heard your voice first..heard it even as you got out of the car. Aise achaanak, tum sab log yahaan? What is the matter?
Vikram walked in with Neha and the kids in tow..hamen yahaan aane ke liye tumhaari permission ki zaroorat kab se padne lagee yaar?
Ram gave a genuine huge grin..Vikram and he were buddies since kindergarten..they grew up together. Ram walked up to Vikram and the friends hugged each other..
Ram: Vikram tell me, is there something special?
Vikram: Ram, whenever you have free time, you just take off and spend your time here in this house all alone.. bas mann kiya so we all came.
While the others were busy freshening up and chattering away Ram and Vikram started walking slowly away from the melee.
Vikram: Ram, you are still in a different world..you are living in a bubble.
Ram: Vikram, aisee kuch baat nahin hai, you know.
Vikram: Ram, why is it that you are so lonely? You have such a loving family, you have money, friends everything. But you are not happy. You are trying to look happy.
Ram: Vikram you are wrong. I am content in my life.
Vikram: I see that you are searching..there is something that you are looking for. Kya hai woh? What is it that you lack in life? I tried getting you in touch with so many lovely single women. But you are not interested.
Ram: Sighs..yes, Vikram..I have everything..but I am looking for her..
Vikram: Who is that?
Ram: Priya..I am still looking for her..one day I will find her.
Vikram: Gosh Ram! Priya is not real..she is a figment of your imagination..woh ek khayal hai..she cannot be real. Ram, there are so many nice women- well educated smart professionals you could marry..why are you still chasing a mirage?
Ram: Vikram, tum nahin samjhoge… I will find her..someday..till then this topic is closed.
Ram looks away not wanting his friend to see the yearning in his eyes . He thinks..where are you Priya..aur kitna tarsaaoogee?
As they walk quietly into the house, Natasha comes to them and says Bhai can I speak to you for sometime?
Ram: Choti, do you need my permission? Come on, out with it..I knew there was something…or…is it someone???
Natasha..shy ..Bhai… No..yes..actually mmmm
Ram: Ok, is it The Karthik Sharma you want to talk to me about?
Natasha’s eyes open wide with surprise: Bhaaaaaaaai how do you know?
Ram: You think I was born yesterday? These past 6 months you have spoken more about him than anyone else I know. Toh maine thoda pata kiya..Kartik Sharma 28 years of age, runs the K-Ad consultants-a hot-shot advertising company-smart, suave and intelligent. Plays tennis and chess and spends a lot of time with a fashion designer Ms Natasha Kapoor…Am I right?
Natasha can only gape at him..Vikram laughs loudly at her expression and Natasha punches him playfully.
Natasha: Bhai, Kartik wanted to meet you.
Ram: Yes, Milenge..waise Choti..you have made a good choice. Ladka achha hai.
Natasha runs into the house happily making a phone call to Kartik..Ram looks on fondly at his kid sister. She was going to leave this family home shortly to make her own life.
